June 17-29, 2007: Haystack School of Crafts:

            2 week hands-on workshop :
It has been my passion for 30 years to make
pots, on the wheel, for use in everyday life.
Certain obsessions with form and line have
driven my exploration.  In this workshop I intend to show many  of the methods and techniques I use to bring those forms to life.  We will focus on pouring vessels and  covered jars. Great attention will be paid to the details of soy bottles, pitchers and jars:  lid seatings, rims, handles, and spouts. We will look at the decisions made in the creative process, by choice or by default, that affect the expressive qualities of functional pottery.Through discussion, demonstration, and slide presentation I hope to offer new ideas, and encourage a thoughtful exploration of form.

Students should come to the class with a basic ability to throw. The fundamentals of centering, opening and raising clay walls will not be taught.  We will focus  on pushing those skills to experience different techniques and ways of thinking about thrown functional pots.
